Community Support and Charitable Giving

Lunch Break

Food insecurity is a very real issue in Monmouth County as a record number of people in our community struggle to make ends meet. This fact hit closer to home after touring Lunch Break’s Red Bank operations and seeing first hand the sheer demand for healthful, nutritional food options by people who would otherwise go without. The tour was also the impetus for a 2017 partnership between Brook 35 and Lunch Break in which Brook 35 committed to underwriting the cost of chickens for Lunch Break’s Client Choice pantry so that they could feed our neighbors in need of a hand up. (As part of this year-long initiative, more than 600 area families received a chicken in their Easter Holiday Basket distributed by Lunch Break.) More recently, Brook 35 Management team was pleased to spend its annual office-wide volunteer day at Lunch Break, helping the organization prepare for its Fall fundraising drive.

Please visit for more information including how to volunteer and contribute to their local programs and initiatives.

Give local. Stays local. Helps locals.

American Littoral Society—“Operation Oyster”

Brook 35 is a proud sponsor of a pilot initiative to improve water quality in the Two River Area. Operation Oyster is a basic scientific investigation to determine whether there are any oysters living wild in this habitat by encouraging them to attach to recycled oyster shells hung in bags around the rivers. The oyster acts as a natural filter, with a single one filtering 50 gallons of water each day. Later phases of Operation Oyster aim to reintroduce the oyster population back to our area, thus contributing to the overall quality of our rivers which has denigrated in recent years.

Brook 35 and Brook 35 Plaza was pleased to support the fabrication of a spat tank, a tank used to grow baby oysters. On 10/19 and 10/20, Rumson 7th grader science classes were taken to the site where the spat tank was installed. Here they had opportunity to learn about the Society's initiative, the lifecycle of an oyster, and their role in maintaining clean, healthy waterways. The goal of the field trip is to nurture citizen scientists through real world education and engage kids of all ages to be good stewards of their environment.
